How to achieve and maintain Polished Concrete look

Australia loves polished concrete. It is strong, requires minimal maintenance and looks beautiful in any residential or commercial environment.

There are two ways to achieve a polished concrete look. One option is to create Honed Concrete- which means, that the concrete needs to be ground back and then sealed using a protective sealer. The sealer will typically protect the concrete for a period of time, depending upon usage and wear of the surface and will thereafter, have to be resealed.

The other option is to polish concrete, which can an expensive, but superior and hardwearing option. To achieve the polished concrete look, mechanical grinding and use of chemical hardeners is involved.

Maintaining Your Polished Concrete
While polished concrete is strong and robust, debris particles like dirt or tiny rocks can actually create wear on your polished concrete’s surface. Dirt and debris can also travel easily around polished concrete, due to its smooth design. We suggest cleaning your polished concrete twice a week in high-volume areas and once a week for low-foot-traffic areas.

Always use a microfibre dust mop for cleaning smaller areas. This ensures the best quality clean for your polished concrete, while eliminating any risk of scratching or dulling your floor.

For larger commercial areas that require machine-assisted cleaning, use floor scrubbers that are soft and non-abrasive. There are several manufacturers of high-quality floor scrubbers, often available from regular hardware stores.

For the cleaning solution, simply use your favourite pH-neutral general purpose cleaner which is capable of getting rid of dirt. Never use ammonia, bleach, vinegar, hydrochloric acid, or any citrus solution to clean your polished concrete, as this can create unwanted staining.
