3 steps to design your concrete floors

Designing unique, hard-wearing floors for your home involves three easy steps. The best part is, our decorative concrete flooring looks way more expensive than it really is.

Here's how to create your own designer flooring from the kitchen to the garage. With Dulux Avista's decorative flakes, you can choose from full coverage, partial coverage for the terrazzo effect, or our premium Natural Stone Look Flakes.

Step 1: Choose your base colour

Our low sheen Waterbased Epoxy is the base coat for our Natural Stone Look Flakes and Decorative Flakes. You can also use it to create our Stippled Stone look or choose a single solid colour. We recommend application by a professional applicator. The Dulux Avista In Store Tint Range offers six on trend neutrals ranging from dark grey to a light beige. There are another seven bolder Colour Tints available off the shelf. If you still can't decide, you can choose any Dulux colour with a white base, just keep in mind that due to the Waterbased Epoxy white base the resulting Dulux colour will always be a few shades lighter than it appears on a colour card or sample. If you're choosing polished concrete, you can skip straight to step 3.

Step 2: Pick your flakes

This is where it gets fun, as you add your own design flair to your floor.

Dulux Avista Decorative Flakes come in six beautiful blends comprised of small polymer flakes. To create the high-end look of terrazzo (which is marble or granite set in concrete), you can simply opt for a partial coverage of flakes over your base coat. This is a stunning effect that looks way more expensive than it is.

To recreate the look of real stone, our Natural Stone Look Flakes are made up of different sized flakes. There are six gorgeous off-the-shelf blends to choose from. We also offer Made to Order Flakes, with a huge choice of colours and two different flake sizes.

You can also achieve the Stippled Stone look without flakes. Simply choose one or two other colours to be applied over your base colour. A hopper gun creates the textured look that will add interest and depth to your floor.

Step 3: Top coat

Finally, you need to seal the deal with a clear top coat. We have two high gloss sealers to choose from for coated floors, our 2 Pack Urethane Sealer and Polyurethane Sealer which is a single pack product. For polished concrete floors, both of these products offer a protective high gloss finish.
